Tip Of The Month
Ask Good Questions
More bad discussions are born
out of bad questions than for just about any other reason. Make sure
that when you ask questions, they're good questions. And good
questions are:
- Open
Ended -
allowing for more than just a simple "yes" or
"no" answer. These kinds of questions usually begin with
the words "why", "what", or "how."
Close ended questions usually begin with the words
"can", "do", or "should." (Note:
Most Bible observation questions must necessarily be limiting in
their response. The interpretation and application questions, on
the other hand, should not be.) Bottom line … discussion
questions should actually invite discussion. Pretty deep, huh?
- Purpose
Driven
- with a good reason for asking them. As a leader, you should know
where you want to go in your discussion - what you desire for your
participants to discover - and use your questions to lead them
there. Never ask a question when you don't know the reason for
asking it.
